An anonymous graffiti artist is modifying adverts across East London by gruesomely decapitating bodies within the ads. It is suspected the work is a statement against the sheer volume of advertisements appearing in all modern cities, and is a way of turning the mass produced commercial art of the ad world into high art. Such art has gained quite a bit in popularity in recent years, and unsurprisingly so considering that it is estimated we see anywhere from 500 to 3000 commercial messages per day.

From his Wonderland series, Korean photographer Yeondoo Jung, takes children's drawings and brings them to life. For four months, Jung oversaw art classes in four kindergartens in Seoul and collected 1,200 drawings by children between the ages of five and seven. After pouring through them, he carefully selected 17 drawings and interpreted their meanings. Then he recruited 60 high school students by passing out handbills at their schools in which he invited them to act out the scenarios in the children's drawings. In order to recreate faithfully drawing details such as dresses with uneven sleeves or buttons of different sizes, he convinced five fashion designers to custom make the clothing for the photo shoot. He also made props unlike any scale found in reality but similar to those in the drawings.

The Abandoned City San Zhi
San Zhi is an abandoned site in Taiwan consisting of podular housing off the northern coast of the country. There are no named architects since the whole site was commissioned by the government and several local firms. They were trying to create a posh luxurious vacation spot for the affluent and rich streaming out of Taipei. Now this is where things get weird. The local papers say there were numerous accidents during its construction, and as news spread to the urbanites of the island state, nobody wanted to vacation there, much less visit. Locals say the area is now haunted by those who died in vain and because they are not remembered, they linger there unable to pass on.

TSA Approved Search Alert Luggage Locks
Luggage checked at an airport is sent through an electronic screening machine. If a TSA agent determines the luggage needs to be hand searched, the SearchAlert lock will be opened by the agent with a TSA Secured Access Master Key, which is placed into a key-port on the lock. Once the TSA Secured Access Key is used, the security window changes color from green to red. Only the lock owner can reset the window back to green, the TSA cannot do it. This way when you pick up your bags in baggage claim, you can visually tell if a TSA agent entered your bags, prompting you to; look inside to make sure nothing is missing.

Neil Barret Fall 2007 Milan

"You could reasonably say that the essence of Neil Barrett's design career is duality. Last time around, his collection was a mash-up of stockbroker and skinhead. Before that, it was white-tails toff and khaki-clad grunt. For his latest collection, Barrett has imagined a face-off between Amish and punk, with one white catwalk and one black catwalk to underscore the distinction. And guess what? They weren't as far apart as you might think, mainly because Barrett always focuses on hermetic subcultures with precisely defined stylistic codes. So the starched white button-down, the plaid work shirt, and the sober black coat of the Amish man actually dovetailed quite neatly with the punk ethos. And by the time Barrett had planted an Amish hat on top of an ensemble that matched a snug little back-laced leather blouson to skinny trousers tucked into bovver boots, he had a look that was 100 percent Droog, which, in its subversively graphic maleness, is actually the closest to his lean, mean ideal.

Certain exceptions aside, however, with this collection Barrett finally edged away from leanness, showing gray flannel trousers that were positively generous in their dimensions. He also displayed a finely honed sense of subtle ostentation with his judicious use of metallics, like the silver detailing on the shirt under a gray flannel suit, or the silver shoes and tie (even better, silver jeans, though they were hardly subtle). The nocturnal sheen of such items underscored another of Barrett's signatures: the injection of elements of formal dress into everyday wear. The Amish would grasp the self-discipline of such a notion in a flash."

Ho-ly shit. The Apple iPhone ($499-$599 w/contract; June 2007) is one of the most awesome pieces of technology we've ever seen. Coming in 4GB and 8GB varieties, the iPhone will use GSM/EDGE technology through Cingular and also sports a 2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR. But the big deal is the touchscreen interface that runs a lite version of Apple's Mac OS X. With OS X as the underpinnings, Apple has created fantastic interfaces for phone functions, music (think iPod 2.0) and photos, as well as for mobile email (with push service provided by Yahoo! Mail) and web browsing. Long story short? It's going to be the must-have device for a long, long time.

Dumbo Pod

A rooftop collaboration by Paul Davies, Jake Woland and Rob Roy Chalmers - constructed from plywood, fabric epoxy resin and natural rope.

This is a large organic shape that sits inside of a squat rusting tower. Ropes originate from the center of pod and branch out to points on a second tower. The ropes create a tension between the two towers. Dumbo is a completely urban neighborhood; it is all brick and steel and right angles. The pod is a counter point to this environment. Harp chair, 1963

Jorgen Hoveltskov

"Jorgen Hoveltskov, born in 1935, designer of The Harp, has not produced a lot, less than 10 pieces of furniture before he retired in 1969. Jorgen Hoveltskov finished his education as a cabinet- maker with a silver medal from the Royal Joinery C.P. Hansen in Copenhagen in 1955 and continued hereafter at the school of Modern Art, from where he graduated in 1959 as a furniture architect. At the Furniture Exhibition of the Copenhagen Cabinet-Makers´ Guild in 1963, he first made his name with special attention to his distinctive rest chair by the name The Viking Chair, which later on was called The Harp by Danish journalists.
Despite its extraordinary shape the chair is rather simple in its construction and consists of only two parts together with a string." JC Snedkeri
